About US
CRL Farms breeding program began in December of 1968 when two puppies were purchased from Mr. Ray Hardwick of Azle, Texas. CRL Farms was a large cattle operation in the Columbus Arkansas area and had a need for a number of trained cattle dogs. The two initial puppies purchased were Laddie (7357 AIBC) and Mitsie (7358 AIBC). Laddie was out of Ladd (4669 AIBC) an imported sire and Betty (2803 AIBC). Both Parents were well trained and skilled working dogs. Mitsie (7358) was also sired by Ladd.
From Laddie and Mitsie a number of excellent Cattle dogs were raised. Notable offspring were CRL's Ringer (10237 AIBC). Ringer was one of the best cattle dogs ever owned by CRL farms. Other notable dogs were CRL's Scout (10238 AIBC), CRL's Sally (10952 AIBC), CRL's Happy (16842 AIBC), and CRL's Misti (29754 AIBC). Laddie was lost due to an unfortunate accident. To replace him we purchased another sire from Mr. Hardwick, Dan (10216 AIBC). Dan Had similar breeding to Laddie and the breeding program continued. In 1970, CRL Farm Began raising puppies in Southlake, Texas (Dallas-Ft. Worth Area). The sire was CRL's Scout (10238 AIBC) and the dam was Happy (16842 AIBC).
One outstanding sire that sired over 100 puppies was Dakota (26343 NASD), who was purchased from the Brown's of Buffalo South Dakota. Dakota was out of Shaffner's Spot (17732 NASD) and Fanny (102441). As well as being an intense worker, Dakota was a charming companion dog. His desire was to help with whatever was going on. He loved to ride on top of hay wagons and would ride round bales when being moved to feeders. We no longer have any producing females from Dakota but all of our producers are related to him.
In our breeding program, we raise all of our females and purchase most of our males for out crossing. Please take a look around at our website for current breeding stock and puppies for sale. Feel free to call or email us anytime.
